Many of the owners participating in the tour will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 21 to answer questions about their gardens and talk about life in the East End. “As it is every year, the East End Main Street Garden Showcase is a colorful contribution to FestivALL and a great contriubution to nature's outdoor canvass,” said Ric Cavender, East End Main Street executive director. “There's nothing quite like urban gardening.” The Garden Showcase runs from June 14 to 29. It focuses on the talents of urban gardeners and features 16 locations in the East End. Last year's Showcase was a big success, with hundreds of visitors coming from as far away as Parkersburg and Ashland, Ky. The promotion of urban assets can assist in community growth and even the attraction of new residents, Cavender said. The goal of this project is to promote the walk-ability of the East End neighborhood and to admire and learn more about the benefits of urban living.
