City Center Business Improvement District (BID)
A Collaborative Effort to Strengthen Downtown Charleston
Established by Charleston City Council in September 2021, the City Center Business Improvement District (BID) is a public-private initiative designed to elevate the heart of downtown Charleston. Property owners within the district voluntarily assess themselves a fee based on a combination of lot and building square footage to fund improvements and services that directly benefit the area.
The BID is overseen by a Board of Directors appointed by the Mayor and approved by City Council. The Charleston Area Alliance provides part-time administrative and operational support to the BID.
What the City Center BIDÂ Supports:
- Enhanced cleanliness and safety
- Beautification and public art
- Seasonal events and promotions
- Marketing and placemaking initiatives
