Featured Incentive Programs
Corporate Headquarters Credit
Companies that relocate their corporate headquarters to West Virginia and create at least 15 new jobs (including relocated employees) within the first year may be eligible for valuable tax credits.
Economic Opportunity Credit
Businesses that create 20 or more new jobs within a defined time frame as part of an expansion project can earn credits that offset up to 80% of state business taxes.
“Five-for-Ten”
A tax incentive for businesses investing at least $10 million in capital improvements to an existing base of $20 million or more. The program allows the new addition to be assessed at just 3% salvage value for 10 years, significantly reducing property tax liability.
Manufacturing Investment Credit
Offers a 60% tax credit on corporate net income and franchise taxes based on qualified investments—no new job creation required.
Manufacturing Sales Tax Exemption
Businesses engaged in manufacturing are exempt from the 6% state sales and use tax on materials and equipment used directly in production.
Strategic R&D Credit
Eligible research and development projects may receive up to a 100% offset of state taxes, and R&D expenses are fully exempt from sales tax.
The Freeport Amendment
Goods stored in West Virginia but in transit to an out-of-state destination are exempt from property (ad valorem) taxes, making the state ideal for distribution and warehousing operations.
