  • Rubin Elected Alliance Chairman of the Board

    Steven M. Rubin, managing member of Penn Avenue Holdings, JBS Resources and Rubin Brothers, was recently elected chairman of the Charleston Area Alliance Board of Directors.
     
    “Steve is a dedicated supporter and advocate of the Charleston Area Alliance,” said Matt Ballard, president and CEO of the Alliance. “Over the years he has been a sounding board and a source of wisdom. He is also been deeply committed to giving back to the community. We look forward to work with him in his new role as chairman of the board.”
     
    The companies he currently manages are involved in the oil and gas industry and real estate. Until recently, Rubin was also president of Blue Creek Gas, an oil and gas company that operated and drilled wells   He sold the operating company last year.
     
    Rubin launched his career with Blue Creek Gas in 1976 as a roustabout. By 1983, he was vice president of the company. In the mid-90s he bought out his long-time partner and friend, Stan Rubin and became president of Blue Creek Gas.
     
    In addition to his professional role, Rubin also works on various community projects and interests. He credits his upbringing on Charleston’s West Side as the foundation for his business and personal development. Rubin’s first job was a stock boy at Cohen Drug Company during his high school years.
     
    Rubin also provides advisory services to law firms, accountants and family businesses. In December 2016, Rubin gave the commencement address at the University of Charleston, where he is an adjunct professor in the MBA Program at Triana Center. 
     
    Rubin is currently the chairman of the BB&T Advisory Board and serves on the boards of Edgewood Summit, Bnai Jacob Synagogue, and BB&T Foundation. He previously served on the boards of the CAMC Foundation, University of Charleston, Charleston Tennis Club, and was president of Bnai Jacob Synagogue. He is currently spearheading a steering committee studying the potential merger of the Shul and Temple in Charleston.
     
    He is married to Sharon Rubin and has two adult children, a daughter in law and a new dog.
