On behalf of the Charleston Area Alliance (CAA) board of directors, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Steven Rubin as interim president and CEO following the departure of president and CEO Matt Ballard.

“Matt has been a staple of the Alliance for more than 13 years, and we are grateful for everything he has done for the organization and the Charleston area,” said Steve Hedrick, chairman of the board, CAA. “We’re proud of his hard work and dedication to our region. We will miss his enthusiasm in this role for making Charleston and our region a better and more inclusive place to live, work and play. We also are grateful that he and his family will remain here, and we look forward to allying with him in his new role.”

As past chairman of the board, Rubin understands the mission and goals of the Alliance and is ready to continue serving the Kanawha Valley as Alliance interim president and CEO. Rubin is a Charleston native and served as president and CEO of Blue Creek Gas from 1983 through 2016. He is currently managing partner of South Hills Properties, Rubin Brothers LLC and is president of JBS Resources LLC and various other LLCs. He has served on many boards around the State and Kanawha Valley, including the BB&T Foundation, CAMC Foundation, University of Charleston and the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce. Rubin is a board member and past president of the B’nai Jacob Synagogue in Charleston.

“Steve Rubin has a long history with the Alliance and great passion for our region and giving back to the community,” said Hedrick. “We are confident in his abilities to lead the organization forward while the Search Committee works to identify a long-term CEO.”

“Regarding our path forward, the Board looks forward to a robust search for a diverse set of candidates from which to select the right leader and teammate for our city and region. The Board looks forward to a competitive process,” Hedrick added.
